The Basics - A long time ago, when QuakeC was released and patches started floating up, many of us felt like trying, say the hook and the reaper in one game. But, due to Quake's limits, it was not possible, using long commend lines, and such. The only way was to learn the "magic", QuakeC. While some managed this very vell, others didn't. Therefor, a few people out there, with the knowledge and "power" started making "combo" patches, patches where a whole lot of different mods mixed together. In this review, we'll have a closer look at one of the best, if not the best, one. The Killer Quake Pack! So what is this thing? - Like i said, it's a combo patch, which means that it's a whole lot of different patches mixed together. "So it's a ripp off?!" i hear you say. Nonono! That's one of the good things about this patch. Howard did it simple: (heh, yeah, right ;) Add things people love, add what he loves, and what do you get? The KQP! So, it's a ripp off!..? - I said no! ;) Lemme explain this to you. Now, while other combo patches takes the source code from the original author and puts it into his own patch, they do.. kinda steal it, but if the source is already released, that's another thing. Now, i'm not saying that all the other combo patches out there steals others work. I'm just saying it might happend. Aside from that, Howard has also put a lot of energy into making his own creations. And they are quite good too! This means that you are not just downloading a buch-o-other patches you've already seen before. Now, over to the features.. Weapons - The KQP is boosted with new and old weapons. Everything from flying heads, to guided nukes can be found in here. there is only one problem.. there are so many weapons, you don't know which to pick! I have a few favorites, though.
The Disc: Greate weapon for cutting other peoples head off! Other than that, there are like 40 other very cool weapons for you to try out.. But, then you have another problem. Who are you gonna kill with these weapons? GRUNTS?!?! No, don't worry.. Cause this patch also includes.. Bots!! - Yes, you read right.. bots! After a lot of us (it must have been ;) emailed Howard, telling him to put bots into KQP, he did it! He and Jonathan (Nelo) had made a deal, or something. You might remember Nelo thru the ZeusBot, which he created. (he even got a job because of the ZeusBot @ ION Storm!) That's quite impressive, eh?! "But the Zeus is not as good as the Reaper!" Ah, so you think that the Reaper would beat the Zeus is a game?! Well, think again homey!!! Cause this ain't no wussy shotgun p1mp. While his AI might not have gotten better, his weapon arsenal has! Now he uses most of the Weapoons on KQP, and he also can activate the Cujo bot, the shield and much, much more!! So to all of you who doesn't have a LAN to beat it out on, this patch makes it possible for you too, to have a greate DM game. Features - D'oh, i almost forgot this bit. shame on me. There are so many cool features in here, i simply can't list them all, but like i did with the weapons, i'll list the very coolest bits. Hmm, anyone Remember Qtest? You know, the test version of Quake? Where you could sbow someone's head off? That was a cool features, wasn't it? I was kinda dissapointed, when i found out that Quake didn't have the same feature. But fear not! 'Cause KQP has! (it hasn't feared, but it has the feature ;) And that's not all! You can also shoot someone's arms off too! And if the unlucky player or bot was in the water, you'll see his arms float around too! Does it get any better than that? There's also a Dog, called Cujo. He'll follow you around, and help you take care of any player or bot you might come over. Hm, so what else.. Fake Death. I had a lotta fun running around a corner, and fake death while i had someone after me. And of course, MultiSkin. Ejecting Shells.. And.. well, lots, lots more.. The Final words - Possibly the best Combo patch .. ever.. Download it and see for your self! |
